Indian Head Massage

What Is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage works by manipulating soft tissues and working on marma points (similar to acupressure points) in the back, shoulders, neck, head, ears and face of the client. It is deeply relaxing while also effective at working out troublesome knots and tension. Particularly useful for general relaxation, headaches, sinus issues, neck tension, shoulder pain, encouraging hair growth and improving skin tone.

Promotes hair growth by increasing oxygen in the hair follicles which stimulates growth and health. If hair loss is a big issue, further benefits can be found in using castor oil for the head massage as it is very beneficial for re-growth, even after treatments such as chemotherapy.

Prevents headaches and migraines by releasing built-up tension in the head and neck area and relieving muscle tightness

Stimulates lymphatic drainage by circulating blood to the neck area

Improves circulation of cerebral spinal fluid

Helps to quiet the mind, inducing deep relaxation in the body

Can improve sleep by reducing stress and releasing pent up tension

Soothes the sinuses relieving pain and pressure associated with allergies such as hayfever

Massaging around the eye and into the temples loosens the muscles around the eye sockets and can help them feel rejuvenated and refreshed.

What To Expect From Treatment

While it is called Indian Head Massage, I actually start massaging from the mid back to release tension around the shoulder blades where a lot of people’s stress is felt most. The upper back, shoulders and neck receive deep, nurturing massage before I ask the client to turn over, treating the upper chest, upper arms and shoulders with some more work into the neck. I finish with deeply relaxing massage of the face, ears and scalp and am confident that thus far, nobody has gotten to the end of their Indian Head Massage without having fallen asleep!

Treatment time can be tailored but is generally 40 minutes for €45 0r 60 minutes for €60. Pairs very well with reflexology or reiki for a longer pampering session.
